Billy is a native of Pocatello Idaho , however for the past 15 plus years he has been living, and working in Japan and Hawaii . A 2006 USA Wrestling Gold Level Certified coach, Billy has had the opportunity to work with women's wrestling on every level. He has coached several wrestlers in Hawaii to State and National championships and worked with many of the “ Hawaii ” girls who are now at various colleges including the USOEC and USOTC.
Billy was a coach for the cadet team on a tour to Austria . He was also the Team Leader at the Women's World Cup in Nagoya , Japan and a coach for the senior teams on tours to Turkey , Ukraine , and Sweden . One of his proudest wrestling moments was when Dany Hedin (USOEC), a wrestler Billy thinks of as his own daughter, won a Junior World Silver Medal.
Billy has recently moved back to Pocatello to be closer to family and to help his widowed mother. Billy's wife, Sanae, is native Japanese and together they have three wonderful kids; two boys and a girl. Yoshi, Seiji, and Naely.

Coach Tirpak graduated from Millersville University with a baccalaureate degree in Social Science and Secondary Education. He continued his education while teaching U.S. Foreign Policy and Archaeology at Ridley High School earning Master of Arts degrees in Anthropology, Archaeology, American Literature, International Relations; as well as a Master of Education degree with emphasis in curriculum and instruction. He is also an Academician of the Foreign Policy Research Institute focusing on Eastern Europe .
He began coaching in 1968 as an assistant coach at Ridley High School in Pennsylvania and continued there for fifteen years. In 1983, he moved on to Swarthmore College for five years as assistant coach and then twelve years as head coach. When Swarthmore dropped wrestling in 2000, he became an assistant coach at Ursinus College . In 2000, he founded Women Only Wrestling, a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of women's wrestling. Well versed in Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco-Roman wrestling Coach Tirpak's mastery of technique, knowledge of the Soviet System coupled with his innovative adaptation of Asian martial arts have made him a much sought coach and clinician. He holds the Gold Level Coaching Certification, the highest coaching honor bestowed by USA Wrestling. He is a member of the National Women's Freestyle coaching staff, and the Director of Freestyle and Greco-Roman Coaches in Pennsylvania for USA Wrestling. He is currently the coach of the Women's Freestyle Wrestling Team of the New York Athletic Club.
On the mats, he is an N.A.I.A., N.C.A.A., and USA Wrestling All-American, a Pennsylvania State College Conference Runner-up, twelve-time Eastern Freestyle Champion, and six-time Eastern Greco-Roman Champion.
Coach Tirpak has retired from classroom teaching and currently works as a consultant to libraries on the microfilming of rare documents.
